Ethernet vs. Wi-Fi: Choosing the Right Connection

Where Ethernet wins
A cable provides a dedicated, predictable link that is less affected by walls and neighboring networks. It is often preferable for desktop computers, game consoles, network storage and access points.
Where Wi-Fi wins
Wireless connections support phones, tablets and devices that move. Modern Wi-Fi can be fast, but airtime is shared and performance depends on distance, interference and access-point placement.
Use both deliberately
Wire stationary, high-demand devices when practical. Place access points in open, central positions and use additional wired access points rather than relying on one router at the edge of a large home.
The bottom line
Headline speed is only one measure. Stable latency and low packet loss often improve calls and games more than a higher maximum download rate.
